Sarah and Rich could not have chosen a more picturesque and exquisite wedding location than the Notley Tythe Barn. Located in rural Chiltern Hills, the 12th-century barn is a romantic and wonderous venue- and we love barn weddings! Though the summer sun was fickle on their day, the lovely open fields and stunning sunset more than made up for it. As Notley Tythe Barn wedding photographers, we were so excited to capture Sarah and Rich’s summer wedding here. Last year, we had the privilege of photographing Sarah’s sister’s wedding! This created a warm and familial environment for us since we had met Sarah’s family and guests once before. The morning of the wedding, these familiar faces popped in and out of Sarah’s bridal room to say their hellos, well-wishes, and try to get a glimpse of the bride in her dress. Down the road in a local pub, Rich began his wedding day festivities with a quick drink with friends and family.
The outdoor ceremony was handsomely surrounded by the Notley Tythe Barn, open golden fields, and the lush green trees and foliage of the countryside. The ceremony was replete with handmade and personalized details, including an arch for the ceremony, which was crafted of a variety of branches and charming flowers- it was stunning! While Rich waited with anticipation, Sarah and her father made a classy entrance to the ceremony in her father’s green MG sportscar. Her beautiful dress was fluid with movement and the perfect complement to the natural setting and custom-made décor.
Following the charming ceremony was a cocktail reception with plenty of laughter amongst the bride, groom, and the guests. Everyone then headed into the elegant and intimate barn for dinner and speeches from the bride’s father, the groom’s brother, and the groom. The groom’s brother was so humorous and quick-witted that within minutes the room was howling with laughter, and that included us! We have heard a handful of comedic speeches, but this is one of the funniest to date. Just before the first dance we snuck the bride and groom out of the barn and around the property for a few romantic and creative shots. The moody clouds in the sky and large open fields created a perfect backdrop for our couple. Back inside the barn, the couple cut their two cakes, one of which was a cheesy cake made of four layers such as camembert and stilton cheeses. Cheese-lovers unite! The couple then moved onto their first dance and the Notley Tythe Barn was full of merriment and celebration until their midnight exit amidst sparklers and cheering guests.
